The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
