The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and shade extended, 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
