The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 Their brother Salih asked them, "Why do you not fear God? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 And corn-fields and palm-trees whereof the spathes are fine? 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 (Saleh) said: "Here is a she-camel. She has a right of drinking water, and you have a right of drinking it on appointed turns. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
