The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
