The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise, and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
