The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 And the wizards came to Pharaoh, saying: Surely there will be a reward for us if we are victors. 113 He said: yea! and verily ye shall be of those brought nigh. 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Throw your stick," and behold! It swallowed up straight away all the falsehoods which they showed. 117 ۞ So the truth came to pass, and false was proved what they were doing. 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 "The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)." 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They replied, "We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
