The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 And if they see a sign, they turn away, and say: "This is continuous magic." 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. 4 The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 Then We opened the gates of heaven unto water torrential, 11 And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined. 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 She floats under our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)! 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 How was then My punishment and My commination! 16 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster, 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
