The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 but We see it near. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 And his wife and his brother 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 and guard their private parts 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-- 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
