The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 And Manat the other third? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
