Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 And ten nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Join My servants. 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
