Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 therein every wise bidding 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
