He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruit and grass - 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
