The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ A. L. M. 1 The Romans have been defeated in a nearby land and after this defeat, 2 in the nearer part of the land; and, after their vanquishing, they shall be the victors 3 in a few years. All power belongs to Allah both before and after. On that day will the believers rejoice 4 at the victory granted by Allah. He grants victory to whomsoever He pleases. He is the Most Mighty, the Most Compassionate. 5 (It is) a Promise of Allah (i.e. Allah will give victory to the Romans against the Persians), and Allah fails not in His Promise, but most of men know not. 6 People simply know the outward aspect of the worldly life but are utterly heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not reflect on themselves? Allah created the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them in Truth and for an appointed term. Yet many people deny that they will meet their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled on the earth and seen how the others before them had met their end? They were far more powerful than them, furrowed the earth and colonised it far more than they; and their apostles came to them with visible signs. It was surely not for God to wrong them, they wronged themselves. 9 And once again: evil is bound to be the end of those who do evil by giving the lie to God's messages and deriding them. 10
