The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
When the sun is covered, 1 the stars are made to fade away, 2 The mountains made to move, 3 when the pregnant camels are neglected, 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 when the seas shall be set boiling, 6 and when all human beings are coupled [with their deeds,] 7 And when the female infant buried alive is asked 8 For what crime she was put to death; 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 The curtain drawn back from the skies, 11 when Hell shall be set blazing, 12 and when paradise is brought into view: 13 (Then) every soul will know what it hath made ready. 14 So verily, I swear by the planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night). 15 Go straight, or hide; 16 and sit during the day, or by the darkening night 17 And the morning when it brightens, 18 it is indeed the word of an Honorable Messenger, 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 Obeyed one; then trustworthy. 21 (O people of Makkah), your companion is not mad; 22 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) high up on the horizon in his original form 23 and he is not one to begrudge others the knowledge [of whatever has been revealed to him] out of that which is beyond the reach of human Perception. 24 Nor is this the word of a stoned satan. 25 So where are you going? 26 This is certainly the guidance for all (jinn and mankind). 27 For whoever wills among you to take a right course. 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
