He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and fodder 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
