The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
