The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
