The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and flowing water 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virgins. 36 chastely amorous, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
