Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
