And lo! it is a revelation of the Lord of the Worlds, 192 trustworthy divine inspiration has alighted with it from on high 193 upon your heart (Prophet Muhammad), in order to be one of the warners, 194 It has been revealed in plain Arabic. 195 And indeed it is mentioned in the earlier Books. 196 Is it not a Sign to them that the Learned of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 And if We had revealed it unto one of any other nation than the Arabs, 198 who would have read it to them, they (pagans) would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused it to enter the hearts of the sinners. 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful torment; 201 But the (Penalty) will come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not; 202 Then they will say: Are we to be reprieved? 203 So for Our punishment are they impatient? 204 Have you then considered if We let them enjoy themselves for years, 205 Then there comes to them that with which they are threatened, 206 What shall that which they enjoyed avail them? 207 And never did We destroy a township which did not have Heralds of warning, – 208 By way of admonition, and We have never been oppressors. 209 And [this divine writ is such a reminder:] no evil spirits have brought it down: 210 They are not worthy of it, nor have they power. 211 Verily, they have been removed far from hearing it. 212 So call not upon another god with Allah, lest you be of those who are punished. 213 and warn your nearest kinsmen; 214 And lower thou thy wing unto those who follow thee as believers. 215 but if they disobey thee, say: "I am free of responsibility for aught that you may do!" 216 Have trust in the Mighty, the Merciful, 217 Who seeth thee when thou standest up 218 And watches your movements among those who prostrate in prayer. 219 He is All-hearing and All-knowing." 220 Shall I inform you upon whom do the devils descend? 221 They descend on every lying (one who tells lies), sinful person. 222 They pass on what is heard, and most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets, the erring follow them, 224 Hast thou not seen how they stray in every valley, 225 and say things which they do not act upon, 226 Save those who believed and worked righteous works and remembered Allah much, and vindicated themselves after they had been wronged. And anon those who do wrong shall come to know with what a translating they shall be translated. 227
