The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
