Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 By the luminious Book. 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
