Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights! 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
