The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and believes in the finest, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
