The Spider (Al-Ankaboot)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 Do people think that they will be let go merely by saying: “We believe,” and that they will not be tested, 2 We certainly tried those who have gone before them, so God will certainly distinguish between those who are truthful and those who are lying. 3 Or those who do evil deeds think that they can outstrip Us (i.e. escape Our Punishment)? Evil is that which they judge! 4 He who hopes to meet Allah (must know) that the term of Allah is coming. He is the Hearer, the Knower. 5 Whosoever struggles, struggles only to his own gain; surely God is All-sufficient nor needs any being. 6 We shall expiate the sins of the righteously striving believers and shall reward them better than their deeds. 7 And We have enjoined on man goodness to his parents, and if they contend with you that you should associate (others) with Me, of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them, to Me is your return, so I will inform you of what you did. 8 And as for those who believe and do good works, We verily shall make them enter in among the righteous. 9 And among men is he who says: We believe in Allah; but when he is persecuted in (the way of) Allah he thinks the persecution of men to be as the chastisement of Allah; and if there come assistance from your Lord, they would most certainly say: Surely we were with you. What! is not Allah the best knower of what is in the breasts of mankind. 10 Most certainly God will mark out those who believe and mark out those who are hypocrites. 11 And those who disbelieve say to those who believe: "Follow our way and we will verily bear your sins," never will they bear anything of their sins. Surely, they are liars. 12 They shall bear their own burdens, and other burdens besides. On the Day of Resurrection they shall be questioned about their false assertions. 13
