He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you ignore him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 fruits, and grass. 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
