The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
