The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 But We see it very near. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 His wife and his brother, 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 who guard their privates 29 Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35
