Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
