And when Abraham said to his father and his people, 'Surely I am quit of that you serve, 26 “Except Him Who has created me, for He will soon direct me.” (To my place of migration.) 27 God made (belief in one God) an everlasting task for his successors, so that perhaps they would return (to Him). 28 Nay, but I let these and their fathers enjoy life (only) till there should come unto them the Truth and a messenger making plain. 29 When the truth came to them, they said, "This is magic and we have no faith in it". 30 Then they said, "Why this Quran had not been revealed to a man from either of the two great towns". 31 Will they distribute the mercy of your Lord? We distribute among them their livelihood in the life of this world, and We j have exalted some of them above others in degrees, that some of them may take others in subjection; and the mercy of your Lord is better than what they amass. 32 If it were not that all mankind might have become one community [of disbelievers], We could have given all those who deny the Lord of Mercy, houses with roofs of silver, silver staircases to ascend, 33 And silver doors for their houses, and silver couches whereon they recline, 34 and gold [beyond count]. Yet all this would have been nothing but a [brief] enjoyment of life in this world - whereas [happiness in] the life to come awaits the God-conscious with thy Sustainer. 35
