Seest thou one who turns back, 33 Gives a little, then hardens (his heart)? 34 Has he knowledge of the Unknown that he perceives everything? 35 Or hath he not had news of what is in the books of Moses 36 and Abraham, who paid his debt in full? 37 that no soul shall bear the burden of another; 38 nor can man achieve anything without hard labor. 39 And that his effort will soon be scrutinised? 40 Then he will be fully repaid for it? 41 To your Lord will all things eventually return. 42 That it is He Who granteth Laughter and Tears; 43 that it is He who causes death and gives life; 44 and that it is He who creates the two kinds - the male and the female 45 from a drop of sperm when it was emitted, 46 And that on Him is the bringing forth a second time; 47 That it is He who makes you rich and contented; 48 And that it is He Who is the Lord of Sirius. 49 It is He who utterly destroyed the ancient tribes of Ad, 50 and Thamood, sparing no one, 51 and that He it is Who destroyed the people of Noah before for they were much given to iniquity and transgression. 52 and He overthrew the subverted cities [of Sodom and Gomorrah] 53 so that there covered it that which covered. 54 About which, then, of thy Sustainer's powers canst thou [still] remain in doubt? 55 This is a warner of the warners of old. 56 The (Judgment) ever approaching draws nigh: 57 none except Allah can disclose it. 58 Does this statement seem strange to them 59 And do you laugh instead of weeping, 60 Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.). 61 So make obeisance to Allah and serve (Him). ۩ 62
