The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, 1 And attentive to her Lord in fear, 2 And when the earth is spread out 3 and casts out all that is within it and becomes empty; 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 Will have an easy reckoning, 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 But he who is given his Record behind his back,- 10 he will pray for utter destruction 11 and will enter the Blazing Fire. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 Verily, he thought that he would never come back (to Us)! 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 I swear by the twilight; 16 by the night and all that it envelops; 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe, 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth. 22 And Allah knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds), 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
