Al-A 'araaf 12 of 24

And We sent to no city a prophet [who was denied] except that We seized its people with poverty and hardship that they might humble themselves [to Allah]. 94 Then We exchanged in place of the bad [condition], good, until they increased [and prospered] and said, "Our fathers [also] were touched with hardship and ease." So We seized them suddenly while they did not perceive. 95 And had the people of the dwellings believed and been pious, We would have surely opened for them the blessings from the sky and from the earth, but in fact they denied, and We therefore seized them on account of their deeds. 96 Are the people of the townships then secure that Our wrath would not come upon them at night while they are slumbering? 97 or that which could seize them during their busy hours of the day? 98 Can they remain secure against the plan of God? Only they feel secure against the plan of God who are certain of being ruined. 99
