The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 Verily We created man out of a drop of intermingled sperm so that We might try him, and We therefore endowed him with hearing and sight. 2 Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze. 4 the righteous shall drink from a cup mixed with the coolness of kafur, 5 A spring of which the [righteous] servants of Allah will drink; they will make it gush forth in force [and abundance]. 6 The servants of God fulfill their vows and are afraid of the day in which there will be widespread terror. 7 And out of His love, they give food to the needy, the orphan and the prisoner. 8 (Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks. 9 Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. 10 And so, God will preserve them from the woes of that Day, and will bestow on them brightness and joy, 11 and recompense them for their patience with a Garden, and robes of silk. 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 The shadows will bend over them, and low will hang the clusters of grapes. 14 Rounds of silver cups and silver beakers, looking like glass, will be presented upon them. 15 Godblets of silver, they shall have filled them to exact measure. 16 And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 therein a fountain whose name is called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths will go about them, when you see them, you would suppose them to be scattered pearls. 19 And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion. 20 In it they adorn clothes of fine green silk and gold embroidery; and they are given silver bracelets to wear; and their Lord gave them pure wine to drink. 21 (And it will be said unto them): Lo! this is a reward for you. Your endeavour (upon earth) hath found acceptance. 22
