Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The sure calamity! 1 What is the Inevitable Calamity? 2 What do you comprehend by the concrete reality? 3 Thamood and Aad belied the Clatterer. 4 Thamood, they were destroyed by the violent shout (of Gabriel), 5 And as for 'Aad they were destroyed by a wind, furious, roaring. 6 To which He subjected them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so that thou mightest have seen men during it lying prostrate, as though they were stumps of palms ruined. 7 Do you now see any trace of them? 8 And Fir'awn and those before him and the overturned cities committed sin. 9 and they rebelled against the Messenger of their Lord, and He seized them with a surpassing grip. 10 Indeed when the water swelled up, We boarded you onto the ship. 11 That We might make it unto you an admonition, and that it might be retained by the retaining ears. 12 Then when the Horn is blown with one blast 13 And the earth and the mountains will be lifted up and crushed with a single crush. 14 Then, on that day will the Event befall. 15 And the sky will be rent asunder, for it will that Day be flimsy, 16 And the angels shall be on the sides thereof; and above them eight shall bear on that day your Lord's power. 17 On that day you shall be exposed to view-- no secret of yours shall remain hidden. 18 He who is given his ledger in his right hand, will say: "Here, read my ledger. 19 Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning. 20 And so he will find himself in a happy state of life, 21 In a lofty Garden 22 The fruits of which are near at hand: 23 'Eat and drink with wholesome appetite for that you did long ago, in the days gone by.' 24 But as for him who is given his book in his left hand, he shall say, 'Would that I had not been given my book 25 and knew nothing of my reckoning. 26 I wish death had put an end to me. 27 "Of no profit to me has been my wealth! 28 my authority is gone from me.' 29 'Take him, and fetter him, 30 Then in the Scorch roast him 31 Then fasten him with a chain seventy cubits long: 32 Behold, he never believed in God the All-mighty, 33 Nor did he urge the feeding of the poor. 34 So no friend has he here this Day, 35 nor any food save the filth 36 Which none but sinners eat. 37
