He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
