The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And accepts the best, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And rejects the best, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
