The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
