If anyone withdraws himself from remembrance of (Allah) Most Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one, to be an intimate companion to him. 36 Satan will prevent them from the right path while they think that they have the right guidance. 37 Until, when he comes to Us [at Judgement], he says [to his companion], "Oh, I wish there was between me and you the distance between the east and west - how wretched a companion." 38 It will profit you not this Day (O you who turn away from Allah's remembrance and His worship, etc.) as you did wrong, (and) that you will be sharers (you and your Qarin) in the punishment. 39 Then will you make the deaf hear, [O Muhammad], or guide the blind or he who is in clear error? 40 We shall punish them whether We take you away, 41 or show them to you suffering the torment with which We had threatened them. We are certainly dominant over them all. 42 So hold thou fast to the Revelation sent down to thee; verily thou art on a Straight Way. 43 And it is undoubtedly an honour for you and your people; and you will soon be questioned. 44 Yet [above all else,] ask any of Our apostles whom We sent forth before thy time whether We have ever allowed that deities other than the Most Gracious be worshipped! 45
