Observedest thou him who turned away? 33 and gives so little [of himself for the good of his soul,] and so grudgingly? 34 Does he possess the knowledge of the Unseen, and therefore he sees? 35 Hath he not been told of that which is in the writs of Musa. 36 and about Abraham who fulfilled his duty (to God)? 37 Namely, that no bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another; 38 That a man receives but only that for which he strives; 39 and that [the fruit of] his striving shall soon be seen; 40 Then he will be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense 41 that all things in the end shall return to God; 42 That it is He Who granteth Laughter and Tears; 43 and that He it is Who causes death and grants life, 44 and that it is He who created pairs, the male and the female, 45 From a drop (of seed) when it is poured forth; 46 and that [therefore] it is within His power to bring about a second life; 47 And that He it is Who enriches and gives to hold; 48 that He is the Lord of Sirius. 49 and that it is He who destroyed the ancient [tribes of] Ad 50 and Thamud, leaving no trace [of them,] 51 and before them the people of Noah who were even more unjust and insolent; 52 It is He who turned upside down the people of Lot 53 so that there covered it that which covered. 54 Then which of thy Lord's bounties disputest thou? 55 This is a warner of the warners of old. 56 The Day of Resurrection draws near, 57 [although] none but God can unveil it.... 58 Do you marvel then at this discourse (the Koran)? 59 And keep laughing and do not weep, 60 and divert yourselves all the while? 61 Therefore prostrate for Allah, and worship Him. (Command of Prostration # 12) ۩ 62

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
