a large throng from the ancients, 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
