The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
