He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 You neglect. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
