۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 By Allah, I will certainly outwit your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone' 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrahim (Abraham)." 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 They said, 'So, art thou the man who did this unto our gods, Abraham?' 62 He answered: "Rather it was this supreme one who has done it. So ask them, if they can speak." 63 Thereupon they realized their own foolishness and said, "We ourselves are wrong-doers". 64 Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!" 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act." 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 And We rescued him and Lout (Lot) to the land which We have blessed for the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
