(Before this,) We sent Moses The Book, and appointed his brother Aaron with him as minister; 35 Then We said: Go you both to the people who rejected Our communications; so We destroyed them with utter destruction. 36 And the people of Noah - when they denied the messengers, We drowned them, and We made them for mankind a sign. And We have prepared for the wrongdoers a painful punishment. 37 And (also) 'Ad and Thamud, and the dwellers of Ar-Rass, and many generations in between. 38 To each one We set forth Parables and examples; and each one We broke to utter annihilation (for their sins). 39 Surely they have come by the city that was rained on by an evil rain; what, have they not seen it? Nay, but they look for no upraising. 40 And when they see you, [O Muhammad], they take you not except in ridicule, [saying], "Is this the one whom Allah has sent as a messenger? 41 "He indeed would well-nigh have misled us from our gods, had it not been that we were constant to them!" - Soon will they know, when they see the Penalty, who it is that is most misled in Path! 42 Have you seen him who has made gods of his own desires? Would you be a guardian over him? 43 Do you think most of them can hear or understand? They are like cattle. Indeed, they are even more astray. 44
