A multitude of those of old 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 They were endowed with good things 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
