The Sun (Al-Shams)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 And indeed failed is the one who covered it in sin. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 And He does not fear its coming behind (to take vengeance). 15
