He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and purified. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
