The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 And what could make thee conceive what it is, that steep uphill road? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
