And [every time] the great ones among his people, who refused to acknowledge the truth and gave the lie to the announcement of a life to come - [simply] because We had granted them ease and plenty in [their] worldly life, and they had become corrupted by it [every time] they would say: "This [man] is nothing hut a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat, and drinking of what you drink: 33 And were ye to obey a human being like you, ye are forthwith to be losers. 34 Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth [once more]? 35 ۞ “How remote, (really) how remote is the promise you are given!” 36 "There is nothing but our life in this world! We shall die and we live! But we shall never be raised up again! 37 "He is only a man who has invented a lie against Allah, but we are not going to believe in him." 38 The Messenger said: "My Lord! Come to my help at their accusing me of lying." 39 (Allah) said: "In but a little while, they are sure to be sorry!" 40 A blast struck them for a just cause, and We made them look like withered leaves. God keeps the unjust people away from His mercy. 41 Then We raised after them other generations. 42 No nation can outstrip its term, nor yet postpone it. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Yet whenever its Messenger came to a nation they belied him, so We made them follow others, and We made them but as tales, so begone the nation who did not believe! 44 Thereafter We sent Musa and his brother Harun with Our signs and an authority manifest. 45 To Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, but they behaved insolently and they were people self-exalting (by disobeying their Lord, and exalting themselves over and above the Messenger of Allah). 46 They said: "Shall we put faith in two mortals like ourselves when their people are slaves to us?" 47 Then they accused them of lies, and joined the company of those who were destroyed. 48 And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them a refuge on a hillside where there was a hollow and a spring. 50
